Ship for World Youth program
The purpose of the Ship for World Youth program is to broaden the global view of the Japanese youth, to promote mutual understanding and friendship between Japanese and foreign youth as well as to cultivate the spirit of international cooperation and the competence to practice it, and furthermore to foster the youths with capability of showing leadership in various area of international society.
In addition, this program aims at establishing networks and promoting joint activities among youth around the world through providing, as the concrete and practical opportunity, the cohabitation and the joint activity on the board of the Ship for World Youth, which is the epitome of international society with wide variety of cultures and ideas, to make a visible international contribution from the perspective of human resource development.

Ship for World Youth Alumni Association of Bahrain (SWYAAB)

The formation of the Ship for World Youth Alumni Association of Bahrain (SWYAAB) was the result of Bahrain's participation in the 10th SWY Program. To date, Bahrain has participated in the program six times; the first time being in the year 1998, then the years 1999, 2001, 2004, 2006, and most recently in 2008.
SWYAAB, which is part of a global network of alumni associations, was established back in the year 2000 under the umbrella of the General Organization for Youth & Sports (GOYS) in a bid to carry on the core objectives of the SWY program of international cooperation, global understanding and friendship, and local community service.

Some of SWYAAB's activities in the past have included conferences and workshops concerning youth issues in Bahrain, such as "Careers Day" and "The First Youth Conference", cultural events for members of the Japanese community residing in Bahrain, such as "Ramadan Night", "Ladies Night", and Bahraini cuisine cooking lessons, in addition to international youth exchange programs in the form of reunions bringing together ex-participants of the SWY program to renew old friendships and make new ones, while discovering Bahrain.

Thus far it has received high praises from other alumni associations as being one of the most active and cooperative alumni associations.
This year is special for both the SWY program and the SWYAAB as it not only marks the 20th anniversary of the Ship for World Youth program but also the 10th anniversary of the Ship for World Youth Alumni Association Bahrain.
